Ghost Chair

Many models and makes characterize today's furniture market and there is virtually no limit to the creativity that comes with the different chairs and tables. The furniture world would not be the way it was without the contribution of a man named Philippe Starck. He is famous for inventing what has come to be known as the Ghost chair. The appearance of these chairs can be dated back the year 2002 and the company responsible for their release was Starck & Kartel. This firm was renowned for their creation of chairs using a special compound called polycarbonate which was tweaked to fit current market trends. While the chair somewhat resembled other innovative designs that the firm has produced, it incorporated new designs which made the chairs slightly different in design to their predecessor. Different colors and shades also characterized black that was merged with crystal, yellow, a pale sort of orange, ice green, a white which was somewhat opaque. Other glossy colors such as black were also incorporated into the design. At first glance, the chair appeared very light and its appeal was also enhanced by a natural opaque-like hue that made the chairs appear "transparent". This earned them the name ghost chairs. The chairs actually showed how the chemical compound named polycarbonate can be used when incorporated in a single prototype. This technique which was hitherto unknown, produced a more innovative and trendy chair that other furniture makers struggled to emulate. One such close emulatation is the La Marie which is a close prototype to the Stark chair. The Stark chairs come with a support for the back that is outstanding because the designers make the chair with back-support and comfort in mind.

Phillippe Starck quickly became a very famous designer because of his breathtaking innovation. When it comes to such innovations as the stool that is elongated with a somewhat round look, Stark became much appreciated in the office and home furnishings realm. Stark has now become an iconic figure in the furniture realm. This can be attributed to his exceptional skill and a keen eye for detail. This led him to pioneer new technological advances in the arena of furniture namely a semi-transparent stool. The stool's seats have three differing heights not to mention the variety of colors. Later, he debuted chairs that matched to complement the stools. With each sale, the chairs' popularity grew and they were known as ghost chairs.

A typical chair comes in the following measurements: 36.2", 18.7" high,  21' in width, 21' in depth and 26' in the arm area. There are different variations to these measurements but these are the typical ones. Pre-orders are welcomes by the ghost chair manufacturer, Starck & Kartell. There is a standard $35 fee to ship within the United States as long as one orders four or more chair sets.

With time, the chairs that Philippe Starck invented have increased in innovation. His company has managed to taylor-make the chairs to fit a selected target usually based on age. For instance, the brand clear Louis, is usually marketed to youngsters and this can be seen by the fact that the chairs are decorated to appeal to this age-group. Their colors are more flamboyant than regular chairs. Starck is also prepared to design custom chairs for anyone ordering more than fifty per order.

This invention has been considered unique by many standards. This is because of the impact it has had on the interior design realm. Many other designs based on this one have sprung up indicating that the ghost-chair has had a profound effect on other furniture makers across the globe. It also popularized the use of polycarbonate as a building block for furniture which enables the structure to withstand additional pressure. With extra enhancements, the ghost chair has also become one of the most comfortable in the market.
